For your consideration is this unique WWII theater knife that was made in Oak Harbor Whidbey Island in 1943. A genuine piece of WW2 history.
Whidbey Island is about 30 miles north of Seattle. There is still a Naval Air Station there.
In my opinion the sheath is much more interesting than the knife. The sailor, whose name was GERECKEE that made the knife wrote most of the history of it on the back side.
It’s a heavy duty leather sheath in excellent condition. He added a buckle strap to hold the knife to the sheath. All stitching is intact. belt loop his rivited to the sheath. USN is stamped on the top of the sheath. Neat designs ae etched all over the knife. A large G stamped at bottom of the sheath. Stone pouch with the original stone.
The back side is incredible. He wrote all over the back side. His name written and stamped, GERECKEE. This knife made 1943 in torpedo shop Bar Harber Widby island WASH Air Base W.W.2
The knife is a large bowie style with a bright clip blade and fuller. Double steel guard. Full tang. Wood handle scales that he carved decorations on both sides held on with 3 large pins. appears that he added some sort of lacquer over the handle. The blade is in excellent condition and has a perfect edge. Doesn’t appear to have ever been used.
