For your consideration is this vintage WESTERN BOWIE Fixed Blade Knife Model w49 & Sheath. Selling as used as no box or papers. However you can see the knife is in great condition.
The bright blade looks original. The edge looks original. Not sure what steel was used. Most likely stainless steel. Some light scuffs on the handle.
There were many variations of this knife.
They started making them in the 1960’s on into the 1980′ in Boulder, Colorado.
The W49 was one of the most popular knives carried by some of the troops in the Viet Nam War. I believed they were purchased in the military store PX.
This one has an unusual guard. Most of the W49 bowies had an “S” shaped guard. This is a straight thick heavy duty brass guard that has rounded ends.
I’m certainly not an expert but have never seen this variation.
Rosewood handle scales held on with 3 large pins. Full Tang
Bright mirror polished clip bowie style blade
14 1/4″ OAL, 9″ Blade.
Original Western leather sheath is in good condition. The keeper strap is cracked but I rubbed it with Black Rock leather conditioner and made it more supple.
